A Little About Me
For more than 50 years, I have worked relentlessly to create supportive educational and developmental environments that foster equity, robust learning outcomes, and champion the well-being of children, families and communities worldwide while eliminating disparities and countering injustice. I recently concluded 30 years of work at The American Institutes for Research where I was an Institute Fellow and Vice President and led many major evaluations and technical assistance centers and supported collaboration and practice improvement. I am currently a Senior Fellow at The Learning Policy Institute and a fellow at the Education Collaboratory at Yale and at the EASEL Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. I am an elected member of the National Academy of Education and an American Education Research Association Fellow and have received The Juanita Cunningham Evans Memorial Award for Contributions in School Mental Health and the Joseph Zins Distinguished Scholar Award for Outstanding Contributions to Action Research in Social and Emotional Learning.

My work is grounded in my training in history & sociology in academic and community settings. My experience is rooted in my roles a community organizer, a college and university professor and dean, researcher and evaluator, TA provider and consultant and as a parent of children with disabilities. I continue to learn from culturally and linguistically diverse children, youth, families, practitioners, and researchers worldwide, and from my own life situations and experiences. This website provides access to my publications and papers, presentations, podcasts, and videos to support access to research and theory and to support effective collaboration and practice.
